The birthday person is in every photo and holding none of them
That is how it should be. The trouble is what happens to the photos everyone else took: a few land in the family chat, the rest stay on twenty phones, and the one of grandma laughing so hard she cried is on a cousin's camera roll forever.
A film in Keeps makes the guests the camera and the birthday person the audience. Everyone shoots into one roll, nobody sees anything during the party, and the next morning the whole day opens at once, credited to whoever took each shot.
Three ways to run it
The surprise
Create the film, invite everyone but the guest of honour, and put the card by the door. Invite them once the lights are on; they join before the film ends and see nothing until the reveal. Their face in the first ten seconds, from every angle, arrives the next morning as a present nobody had to wrap.
The kids' party
Parents are the photographers. Give each guest a small number of shots, ten is plenty, so you get the cake and the chaos without five hundred near-identical frames. If other families would rather keep their photos to themselves, choose a private gallery when you create the film: each guest sees only their own shots, and you see everything.
The milestone
A fortieth or a seventieth with sixty guests is a wedding without the ceremony. Size the film for the room, put a card on every table, and reveal it at the lunch the day after. Old friends who have not seen each other in years shooting each other across a garden is the whole point.
How it works
- Create the film with a name, how many people can join, the shots per guest, and when it ends.
- Share the link or QR code a day or two ahead, so guests install Keeps and join at home.
- Everyone shoots from their own phone. No previews, no retakes, nothing visible.
- The reveal the next morning, with a notification for everyone in the film. Save the originals at full resolution.
How many shots to give each guest
| Party | Shots per guest | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Kids' party | 10 | Parents shoot the cake and the chaos, not five hundred frames. |
| Family dinner | 12 | A dozen photos of a table that usually gets none. |
| Surprise party | 20 | Half of them go in the first ten minutes. Allow for it. |
| Milestone with sixty guests | 20 to 27 | A real roll each. Old friends shoot a lot. |
Every guest gets the same allowance, and there are no retakes, so the number is the whole game. Say it on the sign.
Twenty shots each. No peeking. The reveal is tomorrow morning.
Sizing it
- Family dinner: you and four guests are free; a 10-person film is $1.99.
- Ten children plus parents: a 25-person film at $4.99.
- The milestone: 50 or 100 people, one purchase, on the pricing page.
You count as one of the people, and you can add a pack later if it fills up.
Hosting it for someone else
The person who creates the film is the host: they choose the settings, see the guest list, and can reveal early or remove someone. If you are throwing the party for a friend or a parent, create it yourself and let the reveal be the gift. The gallery stays in the app for up to about a year; the photos they save to their camera roll stay forever.
